What are the solutions to the severe housing affordability and homelessness crisis our region is facing? Addressing this crisis requires both short-term and long-term solutions that are grounded in the reality of the situation, with proposals that will support the health and safety of our most vulnerable neighbors.
We’re excited to welcome Cole Merkel and Matt Chapman from HereTogether to represent the work of the HereTogether Coalition and give BBPDX members a briefing on the Supportive Housing Services programming. In 2020, the region’s voters passed a historic measure to address the Portland Metro area’s homelessness crisis, and the funding from this measure has begun to roll out over the last 6 months.
There is no simple, one-size-fits-all solution to homelessness, and the complex problems will require unique solutions. However, we know the only way to truly end a person’s homelessness is with safe housing and wraparound services. We all have a part in supporting our unhoused neighbors and ending the crisis on our streets. Join Cole, Matt and BBPDX as we discuss the near-term solutions proposed by the HereTogether Coalition.
